LV Dance Collective presents its 5th Home Season: APPROPRIATE?
Sun August 4, 2019
In Valentino's 2016 Tribal Africa fashion show, models predominantly white strutted down the runway wearing cornrows, Austrian model Nadine Leopold took to the catwalk wearing a Native American headdress designed by Victoria's Secret, and Givenchy's Chola Victorian production, was influenced from the Chola culture, who are women from the Mexican-American urban subculture. Cultural Appropriation is nothing new in the fashion world and media. However, in LV Dance Collective's 5th Home Season Production titled: Appropriate?, we will challenge that question: Is it appropriate or not?

In the photo above (right), Liquid State, LV Dance Collective movement artists dance in a blue like room of mysterious, magical water - LVDC looks at the statistics and state of affairs regarding water - today and recent past - to ask questions and hopefully get audience members to think about this important resource.
An Exaltation of Movement ...

Once Upon a Time, in a sun drenched theater, south of Market Street, in the Mission District of that City by the Bay - San Francisco - a small dance company performed and the SF/Bay local media's top dance critic, Ulrich, haloed them with five stars out of five! An almost unheard of accolade, bestowed on any small dance company, by this tough-cookie of a writer.

Before I Die - Let me see Local Dance... Summer Performance Festival 8 (SPF8)
By Jim Tobin, June 21, 2015
The Sell Out Kids !! How can you not love a small band of young urban warriors who hold their home season, at the old Garage, over Labor Day weekend and snag a sell out, ON LINE, before the show begins. That would be the equivalent of one of our larger dance companies selling out Zspace, on line, a few days before Christmas.
LV Collective selling out two shows - on line over Labor Day weekend @The Garage. The equivalent of selling out ODC or DMT during the 1st week of a January. We have experienced dance companies who wouldn't even tackle such a holiday coup.
Another duet, LV Dance Collective’s “Quest for Truth,” rivaled Pauvfe’s for intelligence and intensity. The man (Kao Vey Saephanh) courts the woman (Martha L. Zepeda), when she is not tracking him in a shamelessly predatory manner, all to a recording by cellist Zoë Keating.
If you’ve always wanted to fund dance but don’t necessarily have the extra dough lying around to make that happen, take note of the Berkeley, California–based Luna Dance Institute’s CHOREOFUND.
“Hair I Am” collection/dance piece choreographed by Kao Vey Saephanh and Martha L. Zepeda of LV Dance Collective.
For this project, the goal for the hair was movement.
The gestures we make, the objects we encounter, and the subtle arrangement of ourselves relative to the absences left open by the world all utter messages we have been training our entire lives to interpret, using the ciphers of place and culture.
